MmmmmBop. Yoga Hop. NO. Mmmmmbop. Dododododoooo. Ok. I decided to try the ever trendy Yoga Hop in Santa Monica. Many swear by it and say it is the hardest yoga in LA. I could not disagree more. It’s cool in that you get to jam to Top 40s music while yoga’ing it out. But seriously, I go to yoga to unplug from all that noise. Don’t get me wrong, I love music. But, I don’t go to a yoga class to plug into what’s hot on the Billboard Chart.
I took the hardest class they offered (Summit 2/3+) and I didn’t walk out of there feeling refreshed, revived or how I should feel after a swift yoga ass-kicking. There was not a serene moment during the class and it didn’t have the spiritual/relaxation component that yoga should include. The class was divided into two separate rooms (wtf), with the teacher running back and forth between rooms. He had a mic on, but it was obnoxious. His attention was literally divided. Call me needy, but I want my teacher in the same room while he’s teaching in case I royally screw up a pose. But alas, I digress. The staff was nice – it felt like a mom & pop operation. They had one bathroom (no showers) and the space was small.
The signup situation was unnecessarily complicated (8 bullet points, but it includes the refund process). Luckily it isn’t necessary to sign up prior to class. Heads up: the studio is hard to find. The entrance is through an alley off of Montana. So, arrive early in case you get lost. On their website, they’ve given you parking options & a map, which are both super helpful. And last but not least, they offer a Groupon!
